A Festival of Puppetry 
(March 18th - 20th; March 25th - 27th, 2010)
Featuring shows and events for all ages!
Co-sponsored by Canyon Crest Academy’s Envision Theatre Dept., the Festival will take place
at Canyon Crest Academy located at 5951 East Village Center Loop Rd., San Diego CA 92130. 

It  will be headlined by a modern adaptation of 
The Pied Piper, a giant puppet, shadow, and mask production 
performed by Canyon Crest students and aimed for middle school audiences and older.

                        Sat., March 20 at 7pm
                       Fri., March 26 at 7pm
                       Sat., March 27 at 5pm 
 Family Day Celebration - Saturday, March 27
with a variety of shows for all ages, a lobby exhibit, mask and puppet making from noon to 5 pm.
The day concludes with a giant puppet parade leading up to final performance of Pied Piper at 5.

Winter - Spring Workshop Series (January thru July, 2010)

Ever wanted to learn more about puppetry, movement, and manipulation? Come and join us for our workshop series! These workshops are geared for teens to adults and run from 7pm to 8:30pm, unless
otherwise noted. They will be held in the Performance Space at A.R.T.S., located in Point Loma, NTC:
2820 Roosevelt Rd., Suite 106, San Diego, CA 92106.

     Jan. 19th                                                                                                    $20 members/$25 non-members
     Simple Hand Puppets - Iain Gunn                                                       plus $5 materials fee
     Learn quick and fun instructions on how to create a weird and wonderful foam-face hand puppet.
     Glue, adhesives, and polyurethane foam will be provided for you to fold and stick into strange and
     expressive faces.

    March 16th                                                                                                $20 members/$25 non-members
    A Myth in the Making - Mindy Donner
    Create instant theatre inhabiting masks and manipulating common objects, by bringing a myth back 
    from its ancient roots and giving it a contemporary look. This is a theatre of movement. Wear comfy
    clothing, and bring your imagination! 

    May 18th									$20 members/$25 non-members
    Tabletop Puppetry - Lynne Jennings
    Explore a variety of performance possibilities and techniques using an ordinary tabletop as your stage, 
    and puppets ranging from elegant and intricate to simple but intriguing. Be prepared to work collabo-
    ratively with other participants and bring your cast of small, inanimate actors to life and tell their story 
    to an eager audience. Handouts will be supplied.

    Jul. 20th                                						 $20 members/$25 non-members
    Shadow Puppets - Van Tran					              plus $5 materials fee	
    Discover the enchanting “mysteries” behind shadow puppets. Learn how to create a basic shadow 
    puppet out of everyday materials and hand tools. A shadow stage will also be provided to explore
    manipulating your newly made shadow puppet. All workshop participants will receive a take-home kit 
    with additional materials and instructions. Great for beginners!

We’re Moving to a New Home 
(late Spring 2010)
    At San Diego Space 4 Art, 325 15th Street, between J and K streets in downtown San Diego: 
           an exciting collaborative community of artists, operated under the Synergy Arts Foundation. 
         SDSpace4Art’s mission is to both serve the community and to create affordable live/work spaces 
        for artists. When completed,  the warehouse complex will include more than 30 studios, 5 live/
                work spaces, an exhibit/ performance  area, two classrooms and an area for outdoor 
                                                                               entertainment and events.

The Tijuana Project
Will be featured at the San Diego Latino Film Festival (March 11-21, 2010). 
This documentary, directed by John Sheedy,  follows six children who live at the dump 
in TJ, and includes footage of the guild’s Felix Diaz, helping the students of the school 
there create their first giant puppet parade last April. Check their website for showtime:
